Industrial sources: We produce sealed radioactive sources containing both Cs-137 and Co-60 radionuclides emitting high-energy gamma radiation, as well as Am-241 radionuclides emitting low-energy gamma radiation and X-rays, Am-241/Be sources emitting neutron radiation, Kr-85 emitting beta radiation, and surface radioactive sources with Am-241 emitting alpha radiation. Sealed sources with Cs-137 and Co-60 are used mainly in plants as a high-energy gamma radiation source in level gauges and material thickness gauges, and some Cs-137 sources are used in well logging applications. Sources containing Am-241 are used to emit X-rays and form the basis of X-ray fluorescence (XRF) material analysis. For this purpose, Am-241 sources with a beryllium exit window are used, which allows very low-energy X-rays and gamma rays to be emitted. Low-energy gamma radiation from Am-241 is used in level gauges when scanning the contents of smaller objects such as cans and bottles of soft drinks, and in thickness gauges because they allow measuring the thickness of materials with a lower surface weight than gauges equipped with Cs-137 or Co-60 sources. Radioactive sources with Am-241/Be are used to emit neutron radiation and for geophysical measurements in boreholes (logging), for determining soil moisture in agriculture and building materials in construction, and also serve as neutron sources for educational and calibration purposes. Sources containing Kr-85 are used for their beta radiation emission, mainly in thickness gauges for measuring very thin materials such as plastics, thin metal foils, textiles or rubber. Beta emission is made possible by the small thickness of the exit window of 0.025 mm or 0.05 mm. Surface radioactive sources with Am-241 contain Am-241 homogeneously dispersed in gold, incorporated on a silver base, designed for smoke detectors and for static eliminators. Alpha particles emitted from the source surface through a coating of gold or a gold–palladium mixture are used for these purposes.
