A high-level delegation of the Vietnamese National Assembly led by Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Thanh paid a working visit to the Czech Republic from 18 to 21 September 2025 to consolidate friendship and expand cooperation.

Prague, 19 September 2025 – According to Vietnam+ (VNA), Ms Thanh met Senate President Miloš Vystrčil and Deputy Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies Jan Skopeček.
The Czech parliamentary leaders highlighted the visit in the 75th anniversary year of diplomatic ties and after the Strategic Partnership framework was established in January 2025. They described Viet Nam as an important partner and a potential market in Southeast Asia, and praised the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic.
Economy and the Strategic Partnership
Both sides welcomed rapid growth in bilateral trade (according to the source, above US$2 billion in 2024, up 78%). The Czech side noted interest in expanding business in Viet Nam, including the Škoda Auto car manufacturing project. They saw room for cooperation in renewable energy, machinery, supporting industries, pharmaceuticals, chemicals and high technology, discussed making use of the Intergovernmental Committee on Economic Cooperation, and supported the early opening of a direct flight.
EVIPA and other issues
Mr Skopeček pledged to speed up ratification of the EU–Viet Nam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) and to encourage the European Commission to lift the “yellow card” on Vietnamese seafood. Ms Thanh announced Viet Nam’s visa-free stays of up to 45 days for Czech citizens from 15 August 2025, asked for visa facilitation for Vietnamese citizens and a higher labour quota, and proposed more exchanges between leaders, committees and friendship groups. She welcomed the Czech Senate President’s plan to visit Viet Nam later that year.
During the trip the delegation also visited the Vietnamese Embassy, met the Vietnamese community and worked with the city leadership of Cheb.
